Breakdown

Update 3/16/15: The description for the female role - Actor 8 - has been revised. See below

Seeking skilled comedic actors with an affinity for low humor, a company of clowns. All roles (except Faustus, Wagner, and Mephistophilis) will play multiple roles.

SEEKING:

ACTOR 2 / WAGNER
Male, late 30’s – 50’s. Narrator of the play; A more refined and learned clown; Faustus’s servant.

ACTOR 3 / MEPHISTOPHILIS
Male, late 30’s – 70’s. A devil called on by Faustus. Depressed clerk who has worked at the same desk job for all these years.

ACTOR 4
Male, 30’s A clown; brazen fool, but not without native wit.

ACTOR 5
Male, 30’s Another clown / bumpkin; a complete idiot, innocence incarnate and a dupe; loveable and dangerously daft.

ACTOR 6
Male, 30’s – 70’s. The Devil; kind by temperament, but firm; likeable.

ACTOR 7
Male, 30’s – 70’s; An almost absent presence, like a wayward son or disaffected teen.

ACTOR 8 – Female, 20’s. to play the mythical Helen of Troy. Should understand the game of male objectification of women and how this can be subverted. Think Mae West who could play into and simultaneously critique the male stereotype of Sex Goddess.

ACTOR 9
Male, 30’s – 50’s. Versatile utility actor, comedic clown.

The following role has been CAST. Actor may be considered for possible replacement if necessary:

ACTOR 1 / FAUSTUS
(Role CAST - Chris Noth).
Male, 50’s – 60’s. Brilliant and has a thirst for knowledge and power. Sells his soul to Lucifer in order to gain these things. Constantly wonders if he chose the right path and never truly commits to the darkness. Lacks a certain confidence.
