BREAKDOWN

Cul-de-Sac
The contemporary dark comedy “explores the bizarre secrets of three houses in one neighborhood on an ordinary spring evening” and “tells the stories of three couples on a suburban dead end street who go to extreme measures to force their dreams, revealing long-suppressed agendas that threaten their survival.”

Breakdown:

These characters are all experiencing life-changing realizations, or reacting to them in their spouses. The stakes are high and we are catching these characters at pivotal moments. These couples genuinely love each other and are struggling with life’s big questions.

Irene Jones: late-30s -early 40s – She and her husband, Joe, are the cul-de-sac’s gold standard. Everyone wants to be like them. Irene is a little too nice, working hard to make things look perfect as she cares for her twins and covers-up an explosive secret. All she’s ever wanted is to raise her kids to adulthood.

Joe Jones: Irene Jones’ husband - late 30s to early 40s – believes that if you make your life look like you want it to be, it will become what you want it to be. He and Irene inspire their neighbors to change.

Diane Johnson: early to mid 40s – a good neighbor, observant, thoughtful, questioning her life’s choices, trying to figure out her life at a moment of crisis.

Brian Johnson: Diane Johnson’s husband, early to mid 40s - Diane Johnson’s husband, struggling in his job, looking for comfort from his wife whom he genuinely loves while trying to support her during her moment of crisis. A good man.

James Smith: Christy Smith’s husband, late 30s to early 40s – getting out of bed for the first time in a year after a traumatic episode, fighting depression, desperately trying to rekindle the flame with his wife - to get back to where they were.

Christy Smith: late 30s to early 40s - James Smith’s wife, overweight and looked elsewhere to heal the pain of this traumatic episode. Was not expecting her husband to recover – he left her emotionally and she has moved on. She is reacting to his change.
