Breakdown
Circle Theatre' first show of their 35th anniversary season will be the regional premiere of Joe DiPietro's play, Clever Little Lies, which recently ended it's long run Off-Broadway. A mother always knows when something is wrong. When Alice notices her beloved husband Bill has returned home on edge after a tennis match with their son, she grows suspicious and springs into action. Determined to piece together the puzzle, she invites her son, Bill, Jr. , and daughter-in-law, Jane, over for drinks and dessert. Sidesplitting chaos ensues as Alice digs for the truth, resulting in even more honesty than anyone expected. Shattering and hilarious, Clever Little Lies is a story of long-term love and marriage… for better… and for worse.
Bill Sr.: Husband of Alice; father of Billy. Age 55 to 65. He is a businessman and a doting parent. He plays tennis on occasion and is healthy for his age.
Alice: Wife of Bill Sr.; mother of Billy. Age 55 to 65. She owns a bookstore and is also a doting parent. She goes to the gym, takes Tai Chi, and is healthy for her age.
Billy: Husband of Jane; son of Bill Sr. and Alice. Age 30 to 40. A new father. He is a businessman, extremely fit, and an obsessive gym-rat. Billy is having a secret affair with a younger woman and the affair is causing him a great deal of stress and emotional turmoil.
Jane: Wife of Billy. Age 30 to 40. A new mother. Exhausted, but considering putting off her career aspirations to be a stay-at-home mom.
