· A monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of this audition.

50s African former slave in the DeLeon home – great presence, wise and articulate

Caleb
20s White Confederate soldier, only child in the DeLeon family – thin, bearded, has leg amputated, can be arrogant at times, weak character, vulnerable, Southern Jewish family

John
20s African former slave in the DeLeon home – out-spoken, loots homes after the war

The play takes place in Richmond, Virginia, 1865 – after the Civil War

Seeking:

Olivia
39, then 41 – smart, sexy, outwardly strong but covering some fragility, American but spent many years living abroad. A novelist.

Ethan
28, then 30 – Very charismatic, sexy, a fast talker, used to being the center of attention. From Chicago but has little or no specific accent. A blogger and writer.

Both roles require brief half nudity

The play takes place in a bed and breakfast in rural Michigan and Olivia’s apartment in Chicago
