Breakdown

It Has To Be You
by Catherine Butterfield
Director TBA
1st rehearsal 9/9/14, 1st preview 10/3/14, closes 10/26/14

Action is set in Massachusetts; the time is the present.

MINDY – late 40's to 50, a realtor. Oldest of the three “children” but by no means the most mature, and given to tantrums. Has made bad choices in her life. One of them is her on-again off-again relationship with a married man. She feels insufficient in the presence of her mother, whose artistic and carefree personality threatens her. She plays by the rules and resents those who don’t.

FRANK – mid-late 40's, Mindy’s brother, owns a menswear store, which is failing, but doesn’t have the imagination or nerve to change. In a less than happy marriage with his controlling wife. Counting on his mother’s estate to solve all his problems. He and Mindy were close as kids, and instantly fall into their old ‘Frick ‘n Frack’ snarkathon when they meet again.

DOROTHY – 70-75, is a high-spirited artist for whom the rules were not written, as she sees it. Did the best she could with her children and relieved when they flew the nest. The death of her husband was regrettable, but now she’s unapologetically getting on with the next chapter of her life, and living life the way she wants to.

BURT – 48, would-be artist/piano tuner. Burt is Dorothy’s lover. He came to tune the piano, and never left. A bon vivant and lover of fine things. Never left his small Massachusetts town, which has limited his horizons and self-knowledge. Expansive, generous personality and a very masculine energy. No one would ever guess that he is actually gay…not even Burt.

JED – late 30's–early 40’s, is the youngest and most successful brother as art decorator for a TV series. He takes the dramas of the family much less seriously than either of his siblings. Jed is very comfortable in his active sex life, which is homosexual, and somewhat reckless when it comes to the feelings of others.

Mallorca
by Sheldon Bull
Director Donald Brenner
1st rehearsal 5/5/15, 1st preview 5/19/15, closes 6/21/14

Action is set in New York City and the Spanish island of Mallorca.

STAN – Late forties to early fifties. World weary and caustic, Stan is struggling with a dissolving marriage and a desperate need for human contact.

LEO – Late forties to early fifties. Normally a kind-hearted peacemaker, Leo’s world is collapsing around him, leaving him feeling isolated and in a state of panic.

ARTHUR – Around sixty. Usually pompous and snobbish, Arthur is in the midst of a health crisis that he is keeping a secret.

JULIUS – Late forties. Neurotic, brittle, selfish, and highly emotional, Julius is at his wit’s end.

ROBERTA – Late thirties. Recovering from a recent divorce, Roberta is highly vulnerable, but her inner strength is always at hand.
