Breakdown

MAN OF LA MANCHA

CERVANTES/DON QUIXOTE (30’s-50’s): Baritone. A prisoner of the Spanish Inquisition, put on trial by his fellow prisoners. He is an actor, playwright and idealist. He tells the story of Don Quixote - a romantic with a vision of a noble world where courage and honor reign, contrary to the world he finds himself in.

THE LITTLE MERMAID

URSULA (40’s): Mezzo with excellent Broadway belt. The manipulative and cunning sea witch. She is King Triton’s jealous, half-octopus sister who has been banished for killing his wife and attempting to usurp the kingdom. Ursula is extremely calculating, deceptive and shrewd. Must be a superb comedienne.

SEBASTIAN (Mid 30’s – Mid 40’s): African-American. High Baritone. A crab and trusted advisor to King Triton. He speaks in a Jamaican accent. Sebastian’s brooding attitude, paranoia and constant supervision is a thorn in Ariel’s side, but his loyalty to the King helps him to rise above and eventually become quite fond of the girl. Strong mover.

KING TRITON (40’s): Baritone. Ariel’s father and ruler of the Merfolk. Beneath his imposing presence and commanding nature is a concerned, harried single father of seven girls. He clashes with Ariel because they are both strong-willed and short-tempered, and he is increasingly skeptical of humans. He worries about Ariel’s desire to be human only because he loves her so much. Must be comfortable with stage flying.

SCUTTLE (Mid 30’s – Mid 40’s): Baritone. Strong actor, singer and tapper. A loquacious, disheveled and nonsensical seagull. He fancies himself an expert on the human world. Must be good comedian/vaudevillian and must tap. Must be comfortable with stage flying.

MALE ENSEMBLE: 20-35. Open to all ethnicities. Men will play multiple roles throughout. Tap required for some men. Strong musical theatre dancers and singers.

FEMALE ENSEMBLE: 20-35. Open to all ethnicities. Women will play multiple roles (Mersisters, Princesses, Maids, etc.). Strong musical theatre dancers and singers.

THE PAJAMA GAME

SID SOROKIN (30’s): Baritone. New superintendent at Sleep Tite. He is a charming, productive worker. Adamant about retaining his job and improving his performance.

MALE ENSEMBLE (20’s-40’s): Strong dancers and singers.

THE SECRET GARDEN

ARCHIBALD CRAVEN (30’s-40’s): Baritone. Mary’s uncle. Devastated over his wife Lily’s death, he is unable to connect with Mary. A recluse.

NEVILLE CRAVEN (30’s-40’s): Baritone. Archie’s brother. He tends to Colin’s illness. Mourning over the loss of Lily, whom he was in love with.

COLIN CRAVEN (10-11): Soprano. Archie’s bedridden son. He is ill-tempered and stubborn until he opens up to Mary.

DICKON (20’s): Tenor. Mary’s friend. A charming, kind young man with a connection to the garden.

ALBERT LENNOX (30-40): Tenor. Mary’s loving and warm father. An army officer.

MARY LENNOX (10-12): A young girl who loses her parents to disease and is sent to live with her uncle. She is ill-tempered, selfish and cared for by servants in India. She develops real affection for those that surround her at her new home and rids herself of bitterness.

LILY (20’s-30’s): Legit soprano. Archie’s wife. She has been dead for many years and her presence haunts Archie. Beautiful

AYAH (20’s-40’s): Strong mezzo. Mary’s Indian nanny and caregiver.
