World Premiere of HARRIS CASHES OUT! Set for Meadow Brook Theatre, 1/8-2/2
In "Harris Cashes Out!" we meet Harris Wellborn who wrote a musical that lasted for just one performance off-Broadway...40 years ago. Now he's barely getting by, surviving on the charity of his overbearing sister and living in a run-down apartment. Then a wacky neighbor enters his life, and her conniving boyfriend has got the perfect plan to cash in on Harris' near-fame.
Written by Londos D'Arrigo, "Harris Cashes Out!" is the second D'Arrigo comedy Meadow Brook Theatre has produced. For more than 30 years, D'Arrigo wrote for Phyllis Diller, Lily Tomlin and Joan Rivers. Now he concentrates on writing comedies for the stage.
"Two years ago we produced "Spreading It Around" and audiences absolutely loved it," Travis W. Walter, MBT artistic director, said. "When we were given the opportunity to do the very first production of Mr. D'Arrigo's new comedy, we jumped at the chance. Everyone at the theatre-artists, staff and audiences-are excited to think that we're doing it first!"
The cast of "Harris Cashes Out!" includes some of MBT's favorite comic actors. Paul Hopper plays Harris Wellborn with Katie Hardy as the neighbor, Kim Sutton; Lucas Wells as Kim's boyfriend, Jason Sernach; and Milica Govich as Harris' sister, Maggie Bellows.
Meadow Brook Theatre Artistic Director, Travis W. Walter, directs "Harris Cashes Out!" Terry W. Carpenter is the stage manager with set design by Brian Kessler, costumes by Liz Goodall, lighting by Reid G. Johnson and sound by Mike Duncan.
