WAR HORSE & Broadway in Detroit to Host 'Heroes' Night,' 12/18

Broadway In Detroit and The National Theatre of Great Britain's epic War Horse will honor veterans and military families with a special "Heroes' Night" at the December 18th performance of the five-time Tony Award winning play.

Highlights of the evening will feature a pre-show presentation of the colors followed by the singing of the National Anthem. The Detroit Mounted Police will also be in attendance and guests attending the show are welcome to visit the horses along the Second Avenue entrance to the Fisher Building. Heroes' Night is presented in cooperation with the Arsenal of Democracy Chapter of the Association of United States Army (AUSA).

U.S. and Canadian veterans, as well as current military members, can save up to $35 per ticket for the Heroes' Night performance of War Horse. U.S. military and veterans should use the code USVET, while Canadian military and veterans should use the code CAVET, to purchase these specially discounted tickets online at Ticketmaster.com, by phone (800) 982-2787 or in person at the Fisher Theatre box office.

Additionally, consumers who use the code HERO when purchasing tickets to a specially designated performance of War Horse will save up to $10 per ticket, plus War Horse and Broadway In Detroit will donate $10 to the AUSA. This offer is only valid for the following performances:

  • December 17, 19, 20, 23, 26, 27, 31 and January 2 & 3 at 7:30 p.m.
  • December 22 and January 5 at 6:30 p.m.
  • December 21, 28 at 2:00 p.m.
  • January 2 & 4 at 1:00 p.m.

The AUSA works with Detroit area veterans and military family organizations such as the Fallen & Wounded Soldiers Fund, Family Morale Welfare & Recreation, Wreaths Across America, Women in Defense, and more.

The National Theatre of Great Britain's epic War Horse, winner of five 2011 Tony Awards including Best Play, will make its premiere in Detroit beginning December 17, 2013. The Broadway In Detroit show will run through January 5, 2014. Michael Morpurgo's beloved novel, War Horse, is also the inspiration for Steven Spielberg's feature film of the same name, which earned six Oscar nominations including Best Picture.

The full schedule of performances for War Horse, appearing December 17, 2013 - January 5, 2014 at the Fisher Theatre, located at 3011 W. Grand Blvd., in Detroit, is as follows:

- Tuesday through Saturday performances at 7:30 p.m. except for December 31 at 6:30 p.m.

- Saturday matinees at 2:00 p.m.

- Sunday matinees at 1:00 p.m.

- Sunday evening performances at 6:30 p.m.

- Thursday, December 19 is Kids' Night. Pre-show activities start at 5:30 p.m.

- Thursday matinees on December 26 and January 2 at 1:00 p.m.

- No performances on December 24, 25, 30 and January 1.
