The Feast of the Strawberry Moon to Return to Grand Haven

Grand Haven, Mich. - It is with great pleasure that the West Michigan Historical Alliance (WMHA) would like to announce that the Feast of the Strawberry Moon will continue for many years to come.

The Strawberry Moon has brought the local 18th Century History to life on Harbor Island in Grand Haven, MI for 16 years. The WMHA would like to thank the Tri-Cities Historical Museum for the many year of service a dedication to building such a great community event. The museum has elected the WMHA to take over the operations and hosting of the Strawberry Moon.

The WMHA is very excited and grateful for the opportunity to continue the event. It WMHA's goal to build on what the museum has already done and bring new life into the event. The Strawberry Moon will be held on Harbor Island June 10th and 11th, 2017. The WMHA invites everyone to come out and enjoy the Strawberry Moon with their family and friends.

The Feast of The Strawberry Moon has been made possible for all these year because of the support and the generosity of community members. The WMHA would like to thank all of the past volunteers for your participation. Without community support this event is not possible. The WMHA invites all members of the community to get involved with the Strawberry Moon, and they need your support to make this happen. You can get involved by volunteering any amount of time. They understand that not everyone has the time to volunteer, however monetary donations are equally important. There are expenses that are incurred from running a great community event like the Feast and community generosity is what makes this all possible. For the past sixteen years, this family oriented event has allowed the public to interact with historians and reenactors in a natural setting on Harbor Island. The island is surrounded by the Grand River and is located in Grand Haven, Michigan.

This event brings in approximately 250 reenactors, entertainers, demonstrators and period vendors to provide the experience of the 18th century to thousands of public visitors.

During the two day schedule, the event explores the history of the Native American culture, the French exploration period, the English colonization and American unification of West Michigan. Overlapping programs and events occur every half hour during the two days for the public's enjoyment. The period crafts and demonstrations take place throughout the day and are situated within the camp, allowing visitors the chance to experience "Living History" first hand. The sights, smells, music, games, food and drink help reinforce the history in a fun way.

The mission is to continually expand and deepen the event's educational events and workshops that explore the middle ground world that evolved between Europeans and Native Americans in the Great Lakes Region during the pre-1800 fur trade era.
