The Farmington Players to Stage THE FULL MONTY, 4/29-5/21

The Farmington Players invite you to enjoy the irresistible musical comedy The Full Monty, the heartwarming tale of underdogs who triumph over adversity by baring more than just their souls. Director Tim Timmer of Wayne says, 'this gritty and edgy musical comedy is a fantastic and beautiful story that challenges the heart." Desperate times call for desperate measures. When six unemployed steel workers from Buffalo feel like they've been left on the scrap heap of life, they resort to some extraordinary measures to lift themselves up. Astonished by women's enthusiasm for touring Chippendale dancers, the underdogs decide to make money by showing the locals how "real men" do it: by going all the way with "The Full Monty."

The musical sponsored by TruVista Wealth Advisors, is based on the hit 1997 British film of the same name, with music and lyrics by David Yazbeck and book by Terrence McNally. Timmer is passionate about the show he has seen ten times and acted in twice. "When I tell people about this show, the immediate response is 'Oh, you mean the show where the guys drop their pants to make some quick cash. Yea, I saw the movie,'" says Timmer. "This show is more than that. It is a story about real people with real problems in real situations facing real issues. This show is about a group of men, out of work and down on their luck who strive to overcome their fear, their self-consciousness and their feelings of worthlessness to become the most unlikely group of exotic dancers there ever was."

Jim Moll of Farmington Hills plays Harold Nichols, one of the six Ordinary Joes who perform as the "Hot Metal" dancers. As Jim observes, "the themes of economic struggle faced both by the characters in the play and an entire city certainly ring true for us living in the greater Detroit area. What audiences will find, I think, is a combination of edginess in the language and topic with some very touching moments and songs. The play is about relationships when you get beyond the surface - marriages, fatherhood, fulfilling responsibilities as a man - all of which rings true and are relatable."

Every Friday night is "Ladies Night" at The Barn, through the run of the show! Each woman who purchases a ticket to see "The Full Monty" will receive a raffle ticket making her eligible to win a door prize. The raffle will take place during intermission at each of the four Friday shows, April 29th, May 6th, May 13th, and May 20th.
