Planet Ant Theatre is set to present the Detroit premiere of Jonas Hassen Khemiri's critically acclaimed play Invasion! November 28 - December 20. Tickets ($10-$20) are on sale now at www.planetant.com. A complete performance schedule follows this release.

Called "A clever and sometimes-wrenching kaleidoscopic journey through the looking-glass of prejudice, fear and internalized self-loathing" by the Chicago Tribune, Planet Ant is proud to bring Invasion! by Jonas Hassen Khemiri to the Detroit area for the first time. Originally produced in Khemiri's native Swedish, the work has been meticulously translated by Rachel Wilson-Broyles, winning it a 2011 Obie for playwriting and a New York Times Critics Pick. A tornado of words, images and ideas, Invasion! centers around a magical name: Abulkasem. Assaulting our deepest prejudices about identity, race and language it is at once hilarious, disturbing and poignant. This deeply subversive play deconstructs a threatening identiy - the Arabic male - and forces us to confront our own cultural identity.

Invasion! appears November 28 - December 20 on Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00 with 2:00 pm Sunday matinees December 7 and 14. The play features Samer Ajluni (Farmington Hills), Linnae Caurdy (Ann Arbor), Artun Kircali (Novi) and Emilio Rodriguez (Hamtramck), and is directed by Molly McMahon (Detroit) with stage management by Patrick Hanley (Redford). Tickets ($10 opening weekend, $20 December 5-20) are on sale now at www.planetant.com.

Throughout this season on select Saturday evenings, Planet Ant will present a late night show featuring a rotating schedule of improvisation. Tickets are $5 at the door.
