Oakland University Brass Band to Share the Stage with Bryan Appleby-Wineberg

Listeners are in for a treat when the award-winning Oakland University Brass Band performs in OU's Varner Recital Hall at 3 p.m. onSunday, Nov. 1. They will be joined on stage by returning guest artist, cornet soloist Bryan Appleby-Wineberg.Under the direction of Dr. Kenneth Kroesche, the OU Brass Band has become one of the most highly regarded traditional British-style brass bands in the country. They were the First Section champions at the 2014 North American Brass Band Association Championships and toured England in 2015, placing second in the prestigious Butlins Mineworkers National Open Brass Festival.Bryan Appleby-Wineberg is associate professor of trumpet and head of brass at Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey. He teaches trumpet, conducts the Trumpet Ensemble, and performs in the Faculty Brass Quintet. He is principal trumpet of the Bay-Atlantic Symphony, and principal cornet of the Atlantic Brass Band. He is also a founding member of the professional trumpet sextet Tromba Mundi.

The band will perform "When Thunder Calls," by Paul Lovatt-Cooper; "Hymn for Diana," by Joseph Turrin; "Jubilance" by William Himes, Bryan Appleby-Wineberg, cornet soloist; "Henry the Fifth," by Ralph Vaughan Williams; "The Alchymist's Journal," by Kenneth Hesketh; "Hailstorm" by William Rimmer, Bryan Appleby-Wineberg, cornet soloist; "Eagle Squadron" by Kenneth Alford; and "Procession to the Minster from 'Lohengrin'" by Richard Wagner.
