Detroit Public Theatre to Conclude Inaugural Season with DETROIT '67

Completing its inaugural season, Detroit Public Theatre will present the award-winning Detroit '67 by Dominique Morisseau May 13 - June 5th (CHANGED from the Originally scheduled May 6 - 29 to accommodate a partnership with the prestigious Baltimore Center Stage). Detroit '67, by award-winning Detroit playwright and Detroit Public Theatre Advisory Board member Dominique Morisseau, is a collaborative production between Detroit Public Theatre and Baltimore Center Stage. Opening in Baltimore, the production plays in Baltimore until May 8 and will then move to Detroit Public Theatre for a four-week engagement May 13 - June 5. The play originated at New York's Public Theater and extended at Classical Theatre of Harlem with the National Black Theatre. The production was nominated for eight Audelco Theatre Awards including Best Playwright.

Detroit '67
Detroit '67 takes audiences on a journey to 1967 in the city of Detroit. Motown music is getting the party started, and Chelle and her brother Lank are making ends meet by turning their basement into an after-hours joint. But when a mysterious woman finds her way into their lives, the siblings clash over much more than the family business. As their pent-up feelings erupt, so does their city, and they find themselves caught in the middle of the '67 uprising.

Directed by Kamilah Forbes, Detroit '67 features Detroit native Michelle Wilson as Chelle, Detroit native Brian Marable as Sly, Amari Cheatom (Lank), Jessica Frances Dukes (Bunny), Sarah Nealis (Caroline). The show's creative team includes scenic designer Michael Carnahan and costume designer Dede Avite, lighting designer Jen Schriver, and Sound designer Justin Ellington with projections designed by Alex Basco Koch.
