Hoyt Sherman Place welcomes University of Iowa Opera Theatre and their production of Gilbert & Sullivan's tongue-in-cheek comic opera, H.M.S. Pinafore on July 20 and July 21.

In the production, Captain Corcoran's daughter is due to be betrothed to the upper-class Cabinet Minister in charge of the entire Navy, but she falls in love with a lowly common sailor under her father's command. Gilbert and Sullivan's first smash hit satirizes the British class system, with a surprise twist ending. Featuring full orchestra, soloists, and chorus, this production is sung in English with supertitles projected above the stage.

Showtimes are 8:00 PM, with tickets priced at adults: $20.00-25.00; seniors (65+): $16.00-20.00; and student/youth (17 & under): $10.00-12.00.  For more information and to purchase tickets, click here.
