Join the Des Moines Community Playhouse this fall, Sept. 29-Oct. 2, and see "The Front Page," starring Nathan Lane and John Goodman.

Registrations and a $400 deposit are now being accepted at The Playhouse. Contact Lee Ann Bakros, trip coordinator, by phone at 515-974-5358, or register online at dmplayhouse.com. Total trip cost is $2149 per person, double occupancy. Space is limited, and deadlines are fast approaching.

The Playhouse's Best of Broadway tour allows travelers to see newly opening Broadway shows. The packages include round-trip non-stop coach airfare on Delta Airlines from Des Moines to New York City, three nights at the Renaissance Times Square in the heart of the theatre district, and three theatre tickets. Travelers enjoy a relaxing, educational travel experience as John Viars, veteran New York guide and Playhouse executive director, employs his unique knowledge and theatre expertise to guide an unforgettable theatre tour.

On Friday evening, the group will see "The Front Page," the classic comedy about a Chicago newspaper editor who fights to keep his star reporter on the story of a condemned anarchist's jailbreak when the reporter is ready to quit and get married. The much-anticipated show stars Nathan Lane, John Goodman, and "Mad Men" actors John Slattery (Roger Sterling) and Robert Morse (Bertram Cooper).

Travelers can choose one of the following shows for Thursday night: the revival of "The Color Purple," featuring Tony Award winner Cynthia Erivo; the Tony nominated musical about the life of Gloria and Emilio Estefan, "On Your Feet!"; or the Tony-nominated musical "School of Rock," based on the Jack Black film with book by Julian Fellowes ("Downtown Abbey") and music by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Travelers choose the show they would like to see Saturday evening.

Best of Broadway tours leave on a Thursday morning and provide plenty of time to explore and shop before returning on a Sunday evening. New York veterans may come and go as they please, while first-timers can opt for a variety of group tours. A selection of dining and sightseeing options, such as a welcome dinner, a scenic and informative Gray Line Bus Tour, and a serene and breathtaking New York Harbor Cruise are offered, each for an additional fee.

The Playhouse is one of the oldest and largest community theatres in the US. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
