The Des Moines Community Playhouse presents "The Grasshopper and the Ants," today, Oct. 10. This story is the first in the 2014-15 season of Friday Funday, a creative participatory story theatre program for children ages 4-6. Performances are at the Playhouse, Friday, Oct. 10, at 9:30 and 10:30 AM, and 1:30 PM. Shows are approximately 45 minutes in length. Admission is $6 per person, adults and children. Reservations are suggested and can be made online at dmplayhouse.com or by calling the Playhouse box office at 515-277-6261. Guests can purchase season tickets -- one ticket to each of the eight shows -- for just $42.

October's featured story is "The Grasshopper and the Ants." The ants are busy, busy all day long, working to gather enough food for the long, cold winter. The grasshopper would rather play, dance and sing. What will happen when the icy winds blow?

Join the Clubhouse at the Playhouse Gang each month, October-May, as they dramatize a favorite story using their imaginations and the costume pieces and props they find in their magic trunk. Audience members learn the Clubhouse pledge and secret handshake, and listen for the word of the day.

Shows in the 2014-15 season include "The Golden Goose," Nov. 21, 2014; "The Gingerbread Man," Dec. 12, 2014; "Snow White," Jan. 23, 2015; "The Mitten," Feb. 13, 2015; "Fin M'Coul," Mar. 6, 2015; "The Leopard's Drum," Apr. 17, 2015; and "Goldilocks and the Three Bears," May 15, 2015.

The Playhouse is Iowa's oldest and largest producing theatre. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
