The Des Moines Community Playhouse's Final Act Ensemble presents the radio play "Entertaining the Troops, 1943," 7:00 PM, Tuesday, July 29, in the Mainstage auditorium. Tickets are $5 for all ages and available at the door or in advance at the Playhouse ticket office, 515-277-6261.

"Entertaining the Troops, 1943" recreates a World War II performance for the troops and is comprised of a series of short, radio shows including "Flash Gordon," "The Lone Ranger," and "My Friend Irma." The radio plays are interspersed with banter between the show's hosts, songs from the era, and commercials. Audiences will have the unique opportunity to watch each sound effect be created live onstage.

The Final Act Ensemble is a troupe of performers ages 60 and older that perform classic and original radio plays, including commercials and sound effects. Programs are available for youth, adult, and multi-generational audiences.

The Playhouse is Iowa's oldest and largest producing theatre. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
