THE DROWSY CHAPERONE Comes to Colorado Springs 5/09-6/02

The Fine Arts Center Theatre Company is presenting the Tony Award-winning "musical inside a comedy" Drowsy Chaperone May 9 - June 2 in the SaG?Ji Theatre. Performances are Thursday-Saturay at 7:30 p.m. with Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.

"I couldn't be more excited to be making my official Colorado acting (and singing and dancing) debut as Man in Chair in The Drowsy Chaperone," said Scott RC Levy, the FAC's Director of Performing Arts and Producing Artistic Director. "It is a delightful confection, a perfect musical comedy for people who like musicals, and even one for those who could care less for them."

As a performer, Levy has appeared Off- and Off-Off-Broadway, at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, on the stage of the Globe in London, and in over 60 cities across the United States.

Winner of five 2006 Tony Awards, this musical-inside-a-comedy begins when a die-hard musical theater fan, "Man in the Chair" plays his favorite cast recording on his turntable, and the musical literally bursts to life in his living room, telling the rambunctious tale of a brazen Broadway starlet trying to find and keep her true love.

The Drowsy Chaperone director Cory Moosman has previously directed the two most successful musicals in FAC history, Beauty & the Beast and Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Moosman has appeared on stage as Max in The Producers and Dave in The Full Monty. He also co-writes and stars in the WYNOT Radio Theatre shows.

"Audiences can expect to laugh a lot" said Moosman. "It's one of the best musical comedies out there. The show pokes fun at an earlier age of Broadway. That's the highest form of flattery. It's a great evening of comedy! And that's something I know a little bit about."

The cast includes several FAC veterans including Amy Sue Hardy (Crazy For You), David Hastings (Prelude to a Kiss), Nick Madsen (The Full Monty), Max Ferguson (An Ideal Husband), Sammy Gleason (Other Desert Cities), and Lacey Connell (Gypsy).

The creative team includes Erik D. Diaz (Scenic Design), Jonathan Spencer (Lighting Design), Janson Fangio (Costume Design), Jay Hahn (Musical Direction), and Mary Ripper-Baker (Choreography).
