SENSE & SENSIBILITY THE MUSICAL Completes DCTC 2012/13 Season
Kent Thompson, Artistic Director for the Denver Center Theatre Company (DCTC), announced today the addition of the world premiere of SENSE & SENSIBILITY THE MUSICAL to the 2012/13 season line up, running April 5 – May 26 in The Stage Theatre. The play was a huge hit with audiences at the 2012 Colorado New Play Summit when it was workshopped there earlier this year.
In this grand musical adaptation of Jane Austen's enthralling novel, we are drawn into the tempestuous world of the Dashwood sisters. Opposites in temperament, but equally determined to find love and happiness in spite of their desperate financial circumstances, sisters Elinor and Marianne struggle with betrayal, soaring emotions, dashed hopes and their own conflicting notions of ideal love. But while one follows her heart and the other her head, each triumphs romantically by remaining true to who they are.
"We are incredibly excited to add this major new musical to our upcoming season," said Thompson. "Not only will Jane Austen lovers be thrilled but everyone is in for a real treat because we don't often get the opportunity to produce a really large scale musical like this. The score is lush and lyrical. We are also very fortunate that the enormously talented Broadway director and choreographer,Marcia Milgrom Dodge, will be returning to Denver to direct the show. Marcia was nominated for a Tony Award and two Drama Desk Awards for her work on the 2009 revival of Ragtime and she brings a fantastic energy to everything she does."
Daniel L. Ritchie, Chairman/CEO of the Denver Center for the Performing Arts (DCPA) agrees. "This production will be a very important milestone in the already proud history of this theatre company," said Ritchie. "And, with the help of our many sponsors, patrons and friends, the DCPA is prepared to commit significant additional resources to insure that this production is second to none."
SENSE & SENSIBILITY THE MUSICAL is based on the novel by Jane Austen. Directed and choreographed by Marcia Milgrom Dodge.
