Vintage Theatre presents THE GOVERNMENT INSPECTOR (by Nikolai Gogol and adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher) playing now through August 26th. When the locals in a small Russian hamlet learn that an undercover government inspector is coming for a surprise visit, an unfortunate case of mistaken identity sends the whole village spiraling into a world of panic and greed. Witty, smart and wildly satirical, this timely and spirited adaptation of Nikolai Gogol's classic play exposes the corruption of a provincial town with biting hilarity.

The cast, under the direction of Lorraine G. Scott, includes Marcus Turner (Hlestakov), Leroy Leonard (Osip), Wade Wood (Mayor), Mary Beth Gudewicz (Anna), Mallory Vining (Marya), Kathi Baerns (Grusha), Steve Seaholm (Judge), Linda Snow (School Principal), Katie Mangett (Hospital Director), Matt Maxwell (Postmaster), Eric Ross (Dobchinsky), Luke Terry (Bobchinsky), Conor Mullen (Doctor), Cassie Kelso (Innkeeper’s Wife/Corporal’s Widow), Samara Bridwell (Waitress/Locksmith’s Wife), John Katona (Svetsunov), Ryan Nelson (Constable/Abdullin), Dean Satriano (Constable/Pentelaeyev/Messenger) and Dave Cuomo (Constable/Chernaeyev).

Playwright Jeffrey Hatcher has had many plays produced, most notably Three Viewings and A Picasso, Scotland Road, The Turn of the Screw, Tuesdays with Morrie (with Mitch Albom), Murder by Poe, The Turn of the Screw, Neddy, Compleat Female Stage Beauty, Mrs. Mannerly, Murderers, Mercy of a Storm,  Korczak's Children, The Falls, and Work Song (with Eric Simonson). He wrote the screenplay Casanova for director Lasse Hallström, as well as the screenplay for The Duchess (2008). He has also written for the Peter Falk TV series Columbo and E! Entertainment Television.
