"Little Shop of Horrors" is a comedy horror rock musical, by composer Alan Menken and writer Howard Ashman, about a meek flower shop assistant, Seymour, who pines for co-worker Audrey. During a total eclipse, he discovers an unusual plant he names Audrey II, which feeds only on human flesh and blood. The growing plant attracts a great deal of business for the previously struggling store. After Seymour feeds Audrey's boyfriend, Orin, to the plant after Orin's accidental death, he must come up with more bodies for the increasingly bloodthirsty plant.

The cast includes Carter EdWard Smith (Seymour), Jacquie Jo Billings (Audrey), Tim Fishbaugh (Mr. Mushnick), Jake Mendes (Orin) and Rory Pierce as Audrey II; the chorus is played by Alaina Beth Reel (Ronnette), Joelle Montoya (Crystal) and Sonsharae Tull (Chiffon).

"The Little Shop of Horrors" premiered Off-Off-Broadway in 1982 before moving to the Orpheum Theatre Off-Broadway, where it had a five-year run and hailed as the third-longest running musical and the highest-grossing production in Off-Broadway history. The musical was made into the 1986 film of the same name, directed by Frank Oz. It later received numerous productions in the U.S. and abroad, and a subsequent Broadway production.

Alan Menken and Howard Ashman teamed up in 1982 to create the then off-Broadway hit musical. Ashman directed the play, and went on to write the screenplay for the cult favorite film version. Disney found them, and they worked together on The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin. Sadly, Ashman died of AIDS at the age of 41, before Aladdin was completed. Menken has continued to write for Disney, and has done fine work, but the lyrical spark provided by Ashman has been missing.
