In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, the Denver Comic Con announced that Doctor Who celebrities Colin Baker and Daphne Ashbrook will be coming across the pond to attend the second annual pop-culture event. Joining the list of the comic elite, Denver Comic Con will play host to a star-studded cast of sci-fi, comic and animation guests including Stan Lee, George Takei, Wil Wheaton and Felicia Day. Scheduled to take place this summer at the Colorado Convention Center from May 31st - June 2nd, 2013, tickets are moving near double the pace of last year with an expected sell-out looming.

Adding to the list of major-league celebrity guests, the Denver Comic Con just added two highly sought-after guests from the Doctor Who franchise. Widely known as the Sixth Doctor, Colin Baker portrayed the title character in Doctor Who from 1984 to 1986. He made his first appearance in the long-running program as Commander Maxil in the 1983 story arc The Arc of Infinity. As one of the few actors who got to shoot The Doctor, played at the time by Peter Davison, Baker has been known to jest that he got the job by killing the incumbent. He made his first proper appearance as The Doctor in the episode The Caves of Androzani, as he took over from Davison as the titular character. Baker continues to be enthusiastic about his experiences on Doctor Who and in 2011 ascended to the presidency of The Doctor Who Appreciation Society, the longest-running Doctor Who fan club in the world.

The only woman to have a starring role in both the Star Trek and Doctor Who franchises, Daphne Ashbrook is best known for her work as Dr. Grace Holloway in the 1996 Doctor Who movie and the titular character in "Melora" in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. She has starred in many MOW and Mini-Series, including; Rock, the O.C., JAG, Falcon Crest and Hooperman. Special Doctor Who programming will also include appearances with Josh Adams, JK Woodward and Ben Templesmith each known for their work penciling, inking or working on the Doctor Who comic series throughout their careers.

Grab your kids and don't forget your cape for the 2nd annual Denver Comic Con scheduled for the Colorado Convention Center this summer. A whimsical costume-friendly event for children of all ages, the 3-day pop culture convention celebrates all things geek from celebrity autograph signings, to gaming, collectables, comics, panel discussions and even features a chance to find love with the stars of IGN.com's hit web series, Sci-Fi Speed Dating. But that's not all, the Denver Comic Con will nearly double in size allowing for more guests, more exhibitors and even more up-and-coming comic talent in Artist Alley. Plus, be on the look-out for MTV Geek out on the convention floor all weekend long as they set out to capture the burgeoning arts community of Denver.

The only convention of its kind to benefit literacy and the arts in area schools, all of the proceeds earned at the Denver Comic Con will go to the Comic Book Classroom non-profit. Now in its third year, the program is already serving almost a dozen Colorado area schools with its unique after school program aimed at teaching literacy and the arts through comic books.
