A special event produced by the Athena Project, The Mommy Rants, an original one act play by Connie Ferger and Christie Winn, will be directed by Angela Astle and runs at the Rocky Mountain College of Art & Design, November 2 - 16, 2013.

What happens at a baby shower stays at a baby shower. It's Samantha's baby shower and everyone is coming. Well... almost everyone.

The Mommy Rants takes you to a baby shower where, naturally, conversation turns to the crazy journey of motherhood. Pregnancy and new moms; women with no children, those who don't want children and women who have tried to have children but can't. Fathers are not left out, as we have a stay at home dad who is dealing with problems of his own. This humorous and touching one act play explores all the insane things that happen when you become a mother and the experiences no one dares to talk about.

The Mommy Rants plays on Saturdays, November 2, 9 and 16 at 1p.m., 4p.m. & 7 p.m.; Sundays, November 3 and 10 at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. & 4 p.m. at Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design, 1600 Pierce St, Rotunda Building in Lakewood. Tickets are $18 adults, $15 Students/Seniors/Military. Group Discount available by calling 303.219.0882 or online at www.athenaprojectfestival.org.

Christie Winn is a local playwright whose plays have been produced throughout the Colorado area. She has a BA in Theatre Arts and a Masters in Education. She teaches both second grade and drama at Arvada K-8 in Jeffco, and has taught children's theater for over twenty years. She is currently producing and writing plays for Denver's Spark Theater 'Little Spark' program and is the Director of Girls' Write for Athena Project, as well as being an Athena board member. Of course, she is a mother, which inspired her to write The Mommy Rants. Thus, as a Mommy and a Ranter, she felt extremely qualified to write this play.

Connie Ferger holds an MFA in Prose from Naropa University. She has had several short screenplays produced and her latest short, Carma, was featured at the Bare Bones International Film Festival in 2011. Connie has been published in the Ventura County Reporter, Elephant Magazine, and other periodicals. She served as the editor-in-chief for Bombay Gin, Naropa's literary magazine. She serves on the board of Athena Project and currently runs her own freelance marketing business, but her most important job is being a mama.

Child Care: Children under 12 months are invited to be in the audience for free, on a lap, for the show. Daycare for 1-4 year olds is available for all shows. Price is $5/hr. per child. Reserve daycare ahead by calling 303.219.0882 or online at www.athenaprojectfestival.org.

Children's Theatre Classes: Classes for children ages 5-12 are available for all shows. They'll get the chance to act out fairy tales and poems, play drama games and dress up in costumes. Cost is $10 per child, $5 for each sibling.
