Possum Point Players' SOUTH PACIFIC Comes to Georgetown, 4/4-13
Georgetown DE Winter may be slow to leave Delaware, but it's already sunny and tropical in Possum Hall as Possum Point Players rehearse the Tony Award winning musical "South Pacific." Palm trees and promises of magical destinations like "Bali Ha'i" will entertain audiences April 4, 5, 6, 11, 12 and 13 in the players' Georgetown theatre.
In ways that are lightly lyrical and sometimes sadly sentimental, Rogers and Hammerstein set their World War II classic far away from bloody battle fields and muddy fox holes. However, the tensions and devastating losses of war are felt even in tropical paradise. The local residents and the military members who are stationed there are faced with day to day uncertainties of life and taboos of what some may see as forbidden love. Yet, sailors still find time to humorously lament "There is Nothing Like a Dame," and nurses cleanse themselves of problems of the heart with a rousing "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair."
Possum Point Players have assembled a cast of 29 area actors to sing and dance this musical to life. Director Jim Hartzell, Georgetown and Assistant Director Donna deKuyper, Lewes feel that audiences will not only be entertained, they will also see the universal similarities shared by that much earlier era of World War II and life today.
Representing several communities, "South Pacific" cast members include Kori Lewandowski, Bridgeville; Chris Polo, Dover, Claudius Bowden, Pete Jones, Peyton Lynch, Cat Timko, Abby Toomey, Linda Williams and Ashlie Workman, Georgetown; Sherry Fraser, Laurel; Julia Bloom, Doug Friend and Mike Mahaffie, Lewes.
