Varla Jean Merman brings her hilarious new show Varla Jean Merman: A Little White Music ("a honky hit-parade of the whitest music you've ever suffered through!") to Palm Springs' Copa Nightclub and Cabaret on October 14 and 15 at 8PM. Jeffery Roberson aka Varla Jean Merman (who boasts that Ernest Borgnine is her father and Ethel Merman is her mother) is perhaps best known for her role in the independent film Girls will be Girls. She had a co-starring role in the 1997 film, Franchesca Page. Merman was also one of the performers featured in the HBO original documentary Dragtime. She has appeared in a number of short films and live cabaret acts since she and her male alter-ego attended the School of Music at Louisiana State University.

Merman's shows are a stable of summer entertainment in Provincetown. She also performs regularly in New Orleans, New York, San Francisco and London, and has enjoyed billing at the Sydney Opera House and Carnegie Hall. Merman's shows, Girl With A Pearl Necklace, Under A Big Top, Twice Upon a Mattress, Mildred Fierce, The Book of Merman, Gone with the Breaking Wind and Varla Jean Merman's Big Black Hole have filled concert halls and cabarets around the world.

His performance opposite Leslie Jordan in the musical Lucky Guy at New York's Little Shubert Theatre prompted The New York Times to rave, "If Carol Burnett and Harvey Korman had stood in front of the right pair of funhouse mirrors, they might have resembled Ms. Merman and Mr. Jordan in stature as well as comedic talent". He has appeared on TV in Ugly Betty, Project Runway, and All My Children and starred in the role of Mary Sunshine in the revival of Chicago on Broadway.

Varla shared the Outfest Film Festival "Best Actor" Award and the Aspen HBO Film Festival "Best Actress" Award with his costars Jack Plotnick and Clinton Leupp for his featured performance in the cult classic film Girls Will Be Girls.

You can catch his new show "Varla Jean Merman: A Little White Music" ("a honky hit-parade of the whitest music you've ever suffered through!") at Palm Springs' Copa Nightclub and Cabaret on October 14 and 15 at 8PM. Tickets are available online at www.copapalmsprings.com or 760.322.3554
