Garden Grove is about to get a whole lot funnier with the integration of the critically acclaimed Troubadour Theatre Company's rendition of A Midsummer Saturday Night's Fever Dream in Shakespeare/Summerfest Orange County's 2014 season. This play-off of Shakespeare's classic comedy, directed by Matt Walker, tells this story of magic potions and foolish lovers through some of disco's greatest hits. The production includes a cast made up of acrobats, musicians, improvisers, and clowns, as well as a four piece band and an almost entirely improvised second act.

The Troubadour Theatre Company, known as the Troubies, is a not for profit organization that brings friends and family together for a night of slapstick, sketch, and musical comedy in the form of Shakespeare's greatest works. Serving the Los Angeles area since 1995, the Troubadour Theatre Company is graciously bringing their production a little farther south this year to perform on the SOC stage.

First presented by the Troubies in 2003, this production is as timeless as the Saturday Night Fever songs integrated in it. With disco balls, trampolines, giant lions, flipping faeries, and platform shoes, the Troubies will be sure to have you shaking your groove thing in your seat!

The cast of A Midsummer Saturday Night's Fever Dream includes Rick Batalla, Joe Keane, Beth Kennedy Will, Tyler King, Katherine Malak, Rob Nagle, Suzanne Narbonne, Morgan Rusler, Monica Schneider, Mike Sulprizio, Lisa Valenzuela, and Matt Walker.

Director Matt Walker is thrilled to be back performing onstage at the Festival Amphitheater in Garden Grove, after working with SOC from 1991- 1993. As Artistic Director of The Troubadour Theater Company since 1995, Matt has directed over 40 original productions. In 2006, Matt received the O.C. Weekly Theater Award for Career Achievement, in 2007, the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for Sustained Excellence in Theater, and in 2010, the LADCC's Joel Hirschorn Award for Outstanding Achievement in Musical Theater.

Established actor and SOC veteran, John Walcutt now leads Shakespeare/Summerfest Orange County as its new Artistic Director. The 2014 season marks major changes to SOC including an expanded diverse season, guest productions and an educational program. "Our new mandate is 'One big family under the stars' as we spend this summer building bridges," said John Walcutt. "These bridges stretch from the storied history of SOC's past with Tom Bradac, the city of Garden Grove and our loyal subscribers. As well as into new frontiers like the Garden Grove School District, the library system, Orange County High School of The Performing Arts, the Vietnamese-American Community, the Pacific Rim Community of Garden Grove, our Hispanic Community, Korean and Chinese Americans, and, yes, even Hollywood! All are welcomed and invited to our beautiful park venue. Something remarkable is happening at The Garden Grove Amphitheater."
