Orange County's Mysterium Theater presents as part of its 2010 Season, James Goldman's THE LION IN WINTER running July 1st to July 31st produced by Marla Ladd and directed by Jeff Lowe.

James Goldman's piece takes the already thrilling history of King Henry II and brings it to life with language that is brilliant in its ability to characterize, its rhetorical impact, its actability, and its generative power. Few since Shakespeare have had such a marvelous gift for true comic repartee.

William Crisp of Whittier, plays history's famed, King Henry II of England who has three sons by Eleanor of Aquitaine, the most powerful woman in all of England, portrayed by Rose London of Placentia. The king and queen are joined by their sons Chris Geer of Orange playing Richard, a constant soldier willing to fight to get what he wants, Sean Chin of Newport Beach playing Geoffrey, a brilliant tactician and sly negotiator, and in his debut performance Jericho Silvernail from Huntington Beach as John, father's favorite for the crown.

Henry wants the kingdom to stay united after his death, but all three sons want to rule and it is likely to be torn apart by revolution. Henry favors the youngest John, while Eleanor favors the eldest, Richard. Middle son Geoffrey hopes to play both ends against each other and come out on top.  However, the new King of France, Philip, played by Kevin Johnston of Fullerton, has different plans and seeks to put a thorn in everyone's side.

Henry would like to have another heir by his mistress Alais portrayed by Tiffany Berg of Orange, but that would only add to the list of heirs snapping at the throne. Uneasy is the head on which the crown lies, and uneasy the truce between a matchless king and queen.
Mysterium invites you to a night of words, wit, deceit, passion, laughter, and dysfunction of England's most "knowledgeable" family.
