Patti LuPone Ventures to FAR AWAY PLACES for Segerstrom Center Cabaret Series Tonight

Award-winning musical theater superstar, Patti LuPone, who has portrayed some of Broadway's most memorable roles, returns to Segerstrom Center for the Arts for a special one-night-only performance of her latest concert, Far Away Places tonight, March 22 at 8 p.m. in the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall.

Far Away Places, conceived and directed by Scott Wittman with musical direction and arrangements by Joseph Thalken, brings together musical styles from various genres and eras with songs from artists such as Kurt Weill, Edith Piaf, Willie Nelson, The Bee Gees, Stephen Sondheim, Cole Porter and more all backed by a five-piece ensemble. The New York Times reviewing the concert raved, "Far Away Places certifies Ms. LuPone's place in the lineage of quirky international chanteuses like Lotte Lenya, Marlene Dietrich and Edith Piaf, who, like Ms. LuPone, conquered show business with forceful, outsize personalities while playing by their own musical rules."

Two-time Tony Award winner Patti LuPone premiered her newest one-woman show Far Away Places to critical acclaim as the inaugural presentation of New York's newest club, 54 Below, last year. The concert was subsequently recorded as a live performance CD on Broadway records. The author of The New York Times bestseller, Patti LuPone: A Memoir, her most recent Broadway appearances include starring in David Mamet's The Anarchist, a reunion with her Evita co-star Mandy Patinkin in An Evening with Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin and creating the role of Lucia in the new musical Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, for which she was nominated for Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards.

Since 2000 she's appeared regularly at the Ravinia Festival. She first appeared in its Sondheim series when she starred as Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd, Desiree in A Little Night Music, Fosca in Passion, Cora Hooper in Anyone Can Whistle, Madame Rose in Gypsy and in two different roles in Sunday in the Park with George. Her subsequent appearances there include a reprise of her performance in Heggie's To Hell and Back, a concert performance of Weill's The Seven Deadly Sins and starring in the title role in a concert production of Annie Get Your Gun.

A graduate of the first class of the Drama Division of New York's Juilliard School and a founding member of John Houseman's The Acting Company in which she toured the country for four years, her subsequent New York credits include Dario Fo's Accidental Death of An Anarchist, David Mamet's The Water Engine, Edmond and The Woods; and Israel Horovitz' Stage Directions and performances in the musicals Pal Joey for City Center Encores!, Anything Goes (Tony Award nomination, Drama Desk Award), The Cradle Will Rock, Oliver!, Evita (Tony and Drama Desk Awards - Best Actress in a Musical), Working and The Robber Bridegroom. In London, she won the Olivier Award for her performances as Fantine in the original production of Les Mise?rables and in The Acting Company production of The Cradle Will Rock. She also created the role of Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard and recreated her Broadway performance of Maria Callas in Master Class.
