Michael Arabian Directs GOD OF CARNAGE at La Mirada Theatre, Now thru 2/16

LA MIRADA THEATRE FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS & MC COY RIGBY ENTERTAINMENT are thrilled to present the third production in its 2013-1014 season of shows, the 2009 Tony Award-winning play, GOD OF CARNAGE, written by Yasmina Reza, translated by Christopher Hampton and directed by Michael Arabian. GOD OF CARNAGE will preview tonight, January 24, 2014 (with a press opening on Saturday, January 25) and run through Sunday, February 16, 2014 at La MiradaTheatre for the Performing Arts, 14900 La Mirada Blvd in La Mirada.

A playground altercation between eleven-year-old boys brings together two sets of Brooklyn parents for a meeting to resolve the matter. At first, diplomatic niceties are observed, but as the evening progresses, the gloves come off and the night becomes a side-splitting free-for-all.

ABOUT THE CAST AND CREATIVE TEAM:

Michael Arabian (Director) just mounted Waiting for Godot at the Mark Taper Forum, where he previously directed Beckett's Krapp's Last Tape, Albee's The Sandbox, Pinter's A Slight Ache, and workshops of new works. Michael has directed and produced numerous World, West Coast, Los Angeles, and New York premieres. His site-specific company, Theatre InSite, formed a partnership with CBS (Radford) Studios, a first for LA theatre, to produce live TV pilots ("Third Rock From The Sun" picked up) and inventive, large-scale productions (an updated Romeo & Juliet where audiences followed scenes and car chases through the backlot's suburban streets and The Trojan Women (starring Mariette Hartley), set during the Gulf War and staged in 400,000 gallons of water at the old Gilligan's Island Lagoon with an amphibious Humvee from the Marine Corps). Locally, John Patrick Shanley's Danny and the Deep Blue Sea, (14 critics' choices), The Laramie Project, Ten Years Later by Moises Kaufman starring Barbara Bain for the Tectonic Theatre Project in one of 150 presentations around the world, and an unknown play by Arthur Miller, Some Kind of Love Story, produced by Martin Landau and Mark Rydell for The Actors Studio. His productions have garnered over 50 awards. His film "King of the Ants" shot in 35mm was distributed by Larry Estes for Outrider Films. Up next is a feature film titled "The Custodian."

Yasmina Reza (Playwright) is a French playwright and novelist, based in Paris, whose works have all been multi-award-winning, critical and popular international successes, produced worldwide and translated into 35 languages. She has written seven plays (Conversations After A Burial, The Passage Of Winter, "Art," The Unexpected Man, Life X 3, A Spanish Play, God Of Carnage, How You Talk The Game) and 6 novels ("Hammerklavier," "Une Desolation (Desolation)," "Adam Haberberg," "Dans la Luge d'Arthur Schopenhauer," "Nulle Part" and "L'Aube, le Soir ou la Nuit (Dawn Dusk or Night)"). Films include: "Le Pique-Nique de Lulu Kreutz," directed by Didier Martiny and "Chicas," written and directed by the author.

GOD OF CARNAGE will feature: Hugo Armstrong as Michael, Jamison Jones as Alan, Amy Sloan as Annette and Maura Vincent as Veronica.

GOD OF CARNAGE will preview on Friday, January 24, 2014 (with a press opening on Saturday, January 25) and run through Sunday, February 16, 2014. Performances will be 7:30pm on Wednesdays & Thursdays; 8pm on Fridays; 2pm and 8pm on Saturdays; and 2pm on Sundays. There will be no matinee performance on Saturday, January 25. Talkbacks with the actors will be onWednesday, January 28 and Wednesday, February 12.
