The Purple Lights of Joppa Illinois, a new work by Pulitzer Prize finalist Adam Rapp, was featured earlier this season in a NewSCRipts reading at SCR. The play looks at loss, regret and the tenacity of hope. It's the story of Ellis Shook, who lives alone in a small duplex apartment in Paducah, Kentucky, just across the Illinois border. He works nights buffing floors, keeps to himself-and always remembers to take his medication. But when two teenage girls arrive at his doorstep one autumn afternoon, their visit will force him to confront a tragic past while also offering him a glimpse of hope. This full production is a special part of SCR's 50th Season celebration.
