The Palace Theatre Welcomes Marilyn Maye, 10/3-5

Stamford Center for the Arts continues its stellar 2012-2013 Season celebrating the 85th Anniversary of the Palace Theatre with a concert featuring living legend Marilyn Maye with Billy Stritch on Friday, October 5th at 8 PM, sponsored by Courtyard by Marriott. Marilyn Maye will also be presenting a master class titled The Art of Performance on Wednesday, October 3rd from 4:30 PM to 9:30 PM. The 2012-2013 season is made possible through the generosity of SCA’s Season Sponsors Seaboard Properties, Inc. and The Whittingham Family.

In the years since Marilyn Maye first appeared in the spotlight as a pre-teen, she has received an endless stream of kudos. The late Johnny Carson called her “Super Singer.” Ella Fitzgerald dubbed her “The greatest white female singer in the world.” The Houston Chronicle termed her “A National Treasure.” And the prestigious Smithsonian Institution chose her recording of “Too Late Now” (from her RCA Lamp Is Low album) for inclusion in its Best Performers of the Best Compositions of the 20th Century Permanent Collection.

Marilyn Maye’s new show, “The Happiest Sound In Town” features some of her most-requested numbers including “Here’s That Rainy Day” and “Come In From The Rain,” which were personal favorites of Johnny Carson; Maye performed them several times during her 76 appearances on “The Tonight Show” at his personal invitation.

Maye, has been heralded for her amazing vocal dexterity, the sheer excitement, boundless energy and authenticity of her performances, as well as the unique party atmosphere she creates wherever she appears.

In addition to the October 5th performance, Marilyn Maye will be presenting a master class titled The Art of Performance on Wednesday, October 3rd from 4:30 PM to 9:30 PM. The class is open to adults and teenagers - - 16 years or older. Participants will gain a new outlook on their personal talent and abilities from this legendary entertainer, while also providing a way for them to perform for an audience of supportive participants. Master Class attendees may discover new ways of performing that they have never tried or realized before. Marilyn Maye’s master class is for all skill levels, from shy newcomers with long-held dreams to those with years of professional experience.
