Shakespeare on the Sound will form its fourth annual Apprentice Company in 2012 to give theater students and developing artists the opportunity to work with some of the country's leading theater artists on our summer production and beyond.

This apprentice program will provide a deeply meaningful and educational opportunity for growth and development to selected high school and college students with a demonstrated interest in theater, and will give them direct access to national leaders in the field. This is an opportunity for young theater artists and managers to gain self-efficancy and garner meaningful artistic experiences.

The apprentice company will consist of up to twelve selected applicants of diverse backgrounds, ages 14 to 25, with a passion for and commitment to the theater, and especially those who are interested in pursuing theater careers. They will work under the leadership of Artistic Director Joanna Settle, and apprentice to learn from and explore with our master artists.

Apprentice company activities begin late March and continue through the end of August, with full time activities occurring May 1-July 31. In addition to their work with a master artist while we are in production, the apprentice company meets independently to discuss themes that arise during their experience. The program adjusts its activities to support and respond to the interests of the individual apprentices, which evolve as they are exposed to new models of art-making. Additional programming in past seasons has included attendance at dress rehearsals in NYC, audition workshops with the professional casting directors, and fight choreography workshops.
