For people who dream of turning a movie idea into a bona fide screenplay, Introduction to Screenwriting with Katie Torpey will be in session on Tuesdays from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. starting today, June 10 thru July 29, at The Ridgefield Playhouse. Katie Torpey, an award-winning WGA screenwriter/filmmaker with an MFA from UCLA Film School, has worked for numerous networks and studios and sold several screenplays including the 2005 romantic comedy The Perfect Man (starring Hilary Duff, Heather Locklear and Chris Noth). With a good idea for a movie, those inner talents that are dying to be discovered can be honed with a little help from Katie.

In Katie Torpey's Screenwriting Workshop, students will learn the basics of screenwriting, storytelling, structure, formatting, theme, plot, characterization, dialogue, conflict and genre. Katie Torpey wrote and directed the independent film Truth About Kerry (starring Stana Katic of ABC's "Castle"). She recently authored a book Just Breathe about her 130-pound weight loss transformation.
