Join Playhouse on Park in designating the Greater Hartford area as a premiere destination for the cultivation of innovative theatrical work! The Playwrights on Park Reading Series was created for this very purpose, and our next evening in this exciting series is Tuesday, September 27 at 7:30pm with Jacques Lamarre's comedy Honey LaBrea - The Lonely Thetan.

The mission of Playwrights on Park is to produce original plays and musicals, therefore fostering emerging and established playwrights. Each reading features a new work, where audience members participate in a talk back session with the playwright, director and cast members. Audience members are also provided with response cards at the end of each reading.

Valid religion, self-help technology, or insidious cult? For washed-up Hollywood has-been Honey LaBrea, L.Ron Hubbard's church promises career rejuvenation in a spa-like atmosphere... or does it? Follow Honey's adventures as she goes deeper into the church than anyone thought possible and discover how hard it is to go clear when you have a dirty mind. Jacques Lamarre adapted Giulia Melucci's memoir I Loved, I Lost I Made Spaghetti for TheaterWorks Hartford in 2012. It was produced subsequently at George Street, Asolo Rep, Seven Angels, Florida Rep, Half Moon, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, and Hangar Theatre. The play will be making its Massachusetts and Maine premieres in Summer 2017. His follow-up play Born Fat was workshopped at the Philadelphia Fringe Festival in 2015 and premiered at Seven Angels in 2016. The show made its New York premiere at the Midtown International Theatre Festival this July. This summer marked the debut of A Little White Music - A Honky Hit Parade, his 13th annual collaboration with drag superstar Varla Jean Merman. For Playhouse on Park, Jacques has participated in three "Play in a Day" events, creating such forgettable classics as The Hillbilly, Death Comes to Savannah, and Poussez (*Poo-Say). Upcoming: a featured role in Anne Cubberly's Nightfall, and the world premiere of his latest comedy Raging Skillet at TheaterWorks in Summer 2017.
