Lynn Harrell is one of the most prominent artists in classical music today and enjoys an unparalleled career. Through the master class and concert, Mr. Harrell shares his vast experience as soloist, chamber musician, conductor, and teacher with students of The Hartt School and the entire community. The concert also provides an opportunity for patrons to see this illustrious cellist perform with the newly formEd Hartt String Quartet, composed of Hartt faculty members Anton Miller and Katherine Winterstein, violins; Rita Porfiris, viola; and Mihai Tetel, cello. The Hartt School's tradition of presenting world-class chamber music to the Greater-Hartford community continues with this Hartt String Quartet debut, and Harrell's guest artist appearance.

Individually, the Quartet's members have had extensive careers as chamber musicians, soloists, orchestral musicians, and teachers. Together, they bring more than 100 year of experience performing and teaching to the group. Anton Miller, Rita Porfiris, and Mihai Tetel first met when they all were students at The Juilliard School, and are pleased to be joined by violinist Katherine Winterstein, an active performer and dynamic musical presence in New England. The creation of the Hartt String Quartet draws on a strong history of quartet residencies at The Hartt School, which have included the Miami and Emerson String Quartets.

Both the master class and the chamber music concert are part of StringFest! 2013, which takes place at The Hartt School March 17 through 24, 2013. Selected violin, viola, cello, and bass applicants of all ages participate in an intensive series of string and chamber music master classes, orchestra readings, and concerts featuring the Hartt String Quartet; renownEd Hartt faculty member Robert Black, bass; and special guest cellist Lynn Harrell.
