Hartt School Announces PREPARACION FISICA Classes

The Hartt School Community Division brings Preparacion Fisica dance classes to the Greater-Hartford community in 2013. The classes will be instructed by Eddy Tovar of the Texas Ballet Theatre. Preparacion Fisica is a physical training program designed for the Cuban national Ballet School and used by top ballet performers throughout the world. Classes are for adults and teens age 15 and up. Starting January 25, 2013, classes take place every Friday from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the University of Hartford's Handel Performing Arts Center, 35 Westbourne Parkway, Hartford. Students may register for the full spring semester, purchase a 10-class dance card, or drop in. For more information, contact us at 860.768.6000 or visit the Community Division web site at www.hcd.hartford.edu.

Preparacion Fisica is perfect for those who want a "ballet body," but are intimidated by the thought of taking an actual ballet class. This physical training workout was designed for the Cuban National Ballet School and is practiced by some of today's most exciting and physical ballet dancers including Carlos Acosta and Renata Pavam. Preparacion Fisica was developed by a former member of the Cuban National Gymnastics Team, Vicente Hernandez, and has been adopted by dance schools and companies throughout the world. This high-energy physical training workout, accompanied by upbeat music, will make participants sweat as they increase turnout, extension, strength, and stamina and build their bodies into strong and healthy instruments.

The Hartt Community Division Dance Department is offering this highly sought after class, Preparacion Fisica, on Friday evenings at the Handel Performing Arts Center from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Classes will be taught by Eddy Tovar, professional ballet dancer, HCD faculty member, and a disciple of founder Vicente Hernandez. Register for the class for the remainder of the year, buy a discount 10-class dance card, or simply arrive on a walk-in basis. University of Hartford students, faculty and staff receive a 10% discount.

The Adult Dance Program at Hartt also offers weekly classes for students (age 15+) of all levels in many genres. Come to ballet for flexibility and strength. Come to jazz, tap, or hip hop for high energy fun. Express yourself in a completely new way in modern. Hartt's teachers are experienced and enthusiastic professionals dedicated to sharing the joy of dance and helping students develop excellent technique at every level. In addition to Preparacion Fisica instructor Eddy Tovar, other faculty members include Darlene Zoller of Playhouse on Park, award winning choreographer Melissa Chasse, Leslie Frye-Maietta of Full Force Dance Theatre, Stephen Hankey of the National Dance Theatre Company of Trinidad and Tobago, and seasoned performer and teacher Sarah Surber. All Adult Dance Classes offer registration for the full spring semester, 10-class cards, and drop-ins. Visit www.hcd.hartford.edu for a full schedule of classes and tuition information.
