Darko Tresnjak, Artistic Director, and Michael Stotts, Managing Director, announced today that Hartford Stage will join hands with more than 300 theatres nationwide for the launch of The Ghostlight Project, a national expression of unity among artists and audiences, at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, January 19, in the Geo and Laura Estes Lobby.

Hartford Stage is one of 12 participating theatres in Connecticut. From Times Square to San Diego, theatres in 42 states will shine their lights at the same time next Thursday.

Stotts said, "Since the ancient Greeks, theatres have existed as safe gathering spaces for people to share stories, to support each other and to learn from each other. Hartford Stage joins our colleagues across the country in making a pledge to uphold and protect the values of inclusion, participation and compassion for everyone in our community."

Hartford Stage invites the whole community to join in reaffirming the importance of these values. Theatre leaders and select cast members of The Comedy of Errors will play music and read inspirational quotes from dramatic works. All attendees are invited to bring a light with them to the theatre. (Flashlights, including cell phone lights, are ideal.) Hot cider will be provided during the brief ceremony.

A theatre's ghost light is generally a single bulb on a metal light stand, which is left to illuminate the stage throughout the night. By participating in this national day of light, Hartford Stage's own ghost light will shine brightly in the lobby of the theater as a beacon of hope, creativity and inclusivity.
