Journey to the days of King Arthur ... well, sort of ... with the metaperformers of Shadowbox Live as they bring you the quest for the Holy Grail ... with some embellishment ... in their brand new musical production, Monty Python's Spamalot, opening tonight, September 1st at the Shadowbox Live Building, 503 S. Front Street!

Spamalot, the Tony Award winner of Best Musical in 2005, was "lovingly ripped off from" the 1975 film Monty Python and the Holy Grail. It follows King Arthur and his band of hysterically inept Knights of the Roundtable as they vow to find the Holy Grail by any means necessary, whether that be building a large wooden rabbit, battling French taunters, or even putting on a Broadway musical!

Shadowbox Live, Amercia's largest resident theater company, has been performing sketch comedy in Columbus for over twenty years, with many of its metaperformers crediting Monty Python as a major influence in their performance careers.

"I don't think anyone can deny that Monty Python was groundbreaking for the art of comedy," says Stev Guyer, Executive Producer and CEO of Shadowbox Live. "We did a number of their sketches in our early years back at Spring Street, and I can tell you we absolutely love performing their very unique style."

And in keeping with the Monty Python tradition, many Shadowbox Live metaperformers will be playing multiple roles in the production, with a few playing roles of the opposite gender, including crowd favorite Amy Lay as King Arthur's loyal companion, Patsy.

"We are having an absolute blast rehearsing this show," says Guyer. "Every single rehearsal has been filled with laughter, both from the cast and anyone who happens to be watching. Don't miss this one. It's downright hysterical."

It's all flying cows, killer rabbits, black knights and shrubberies at Shadowbox Live. Whether you know every line to the movie, or you're a Monty Pythonnewbie, grab your coconuts, mount your "horse," and head on down to the Brewery District for Monty Python's Spamalot!

Shadowbox Live presents a musical production: Monty Python's Spamalot, opening today, September 1st at 7:00 PM, and running every followingSunday at 2:00 & 7:00 PM through November 17, 2013.
