Three films on CAPA's 2010 Summer Movie Series at the Ohio Theatre will offer audio description for visually impaired patrons at no extra charge. Audio description allows visually impaired theatre-goers to hear a scene-by-scene narration of the on-screen action while they listen to movie dialogue.

The following showings will offer audio-description:

Some Like It Hot (1959)
Saturday, June 19, 7:30 pm
On the run from the Chicago mob, unemployed musicians Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon disguise themselves as women and join an all-girl band. This sidesplitting comedy from director Billy Wilder is a National Treasure which features a memorably campy Marilyn Monroe as a ukulele-playing vocalist.

Carousel (1956)
Sunday, June 27, 2 pm
In this unforgettable Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, former carnival barker Billy Bigelow (Gordon MacRae) asks to be sent down "from above" for one day to make amends for the mistakes he made in life. Much loved songs include "If I Loved You," "June is Busting Out All Over," and "Soliloquy."

Double Indemnity (1944)
Friday, July 23, 7:30 pm
Fred MacMurray snags his best movie role as the likeable insurance salesman who is seduced by Barbara Stanwyck into committing a calculated crime for lust and personal gain. Billy Wilder directs this brilliant film noir which he co-penned with Raymond Chandler. Recipient of seven Oscar nominations!

Blind or visually impaired persons and their guests will be admitted for a reduced ticket price of $3 each. Headsets can be picked up in the lobby before the audio-described showings. To reserve equipment, contact Judy Smith at (614) 469-1045.

Describers receive detailed training through Ohio State University's Lawrence and Lee Theatre Research Institute, the nation's only statewide audio description service. The institute's director, Alan Woods, is a national leader in establishing and raising standards for describers nationwide. Audio description is also provided in association with Accessible Arts, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing audio description for cultural arts events.

The Ohio Arts Council helped fund this program with state tax dollars to encourage economic growth, education excellence, and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans. CAPA also appreciates the support of the Abigail Simpson, Grace K. and Robert L. Rohe, and Martha G. Staub Funds of the Columbus Foundation, assisting donors and others in strengthening our community for the benefit of all of its citizens, and the Greater Columbus Arts Council, supporting the city's artists and arts organizations since 1973.

Owner/operator of downtown Columbus' magnificent, historic theatres (Ohio Theatre, Palace Theatre, Southern Theatre) and manager of the Riffe Center Theatre Complex, Lincoln Theatre, Valentine Theatre (Toledo, OH), and Shubert Theater (New Haven, CT), CAPA is a not-for-profit, award-winning presenter of national and international performing arts and entertainment now celebrating 40 years of service.
