Spend an unforgettable evening as PlayhouseSquare and Great Lakes Theater present the classicGUYS AND DOLLS May 1 - June 30 at the Hanna Theatre at PlayhouseSquare. GUYS AND DOLLS is part of the KeyBank Broadway Series.

A Musical Fable of Broadway; Based on a story and characters by Damon Runyon; Music and lyrics by Frank Loesser; Book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows GUYS AND DOLLS is a sure bet that soars with the spirit of Broadway! Set in vivid, mid-20th century New York City and buoyed by a Frank Loesser score that is among the most immortal works in theater history, this American classic has been called "the perfect musical comedy." Featuring an eclectic ensemble of high-rolling gambler "guys," well-meaning missionary "dolls" and brassy-voiced showgirls, GUYS AND DOLLS is a toe-tappingly fun and romantic fable about gambling men and the strong-willed women who love them. GUYS AND DOLLS premiered on Broadway in the 1950s and managed to win the Tony Award for best musical. In 1955, the musical became a film adaptation, starring some of the biggest names of its day: Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra, Jean Simmons and Vivian Blaine.

GUYS AND DOLLS is directed and choreographed by Tony Award nominee and Cleveland native Dan Knechtges, who has established himself as one of the leading artists in American theater; working regularly on Broadway. His most recent credits include Sondheim on Sondheim, Lysistrata Jones, Xanadu and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, among many others

This production of GUYS AND DOLLS will mark the second year that PlayhouseSquare (the nation's largest performing arts center outside of New York City) and Great Lakes Theater (one of the nation's pre-eminent regional theater companies) are able to collaborate on a production.

"The opportunity to hear the magnificent score of GUYS AND DOLLS in the intimate setting of the Hanna Theatre promises to be a savory treat," said PlayhouseSquare Senior Vice President of Theatre Operations Gina Vernaci. "Shaping this joyous celebration is our esteemed director, Dan Knechtges who after working extensively on Broadway, is finally making his PlayhouseSquare debut. His keen eye in collaboration with our partners at Great Lakes Theater is a first-class combination."

"We are thrilled to collaborate once again with the extraordinary team at PlayhouseSquare," said Great Lakes Theater Producing Artistic Director, Charles Fee. "In addition to affording our region's audiences the opportunity to experience one of Broadway's greatest musicals, this joint production also affords us a chance to celebrate our 30-year partnership with PlayhouseSquare as a resident company. We're grateful for PlayhouseSquare's support over the years as partners, mentors and friends. Our three decades of work together is proof positive that great things are possible in our community through creativity and collaboration. We look forward to welcoming the KeyBank Broadway Series family to our Hanna Theatre home."
