New York Musical Festival - Summer Internships - New York Musical Festival

LISTING INFORMATION

The award-winning New York Musical Festival is seeking interns to help as preparations begin for the 2017 Festival. Positions are available in the Producing, General Management, Programming, and Marketing departments.

The internship program exposes young professionals to the world of non-profit theater administration and production. Interns are active participants in the day-to-day operations of all facets of the company. Our interns not only gain valuable skills in the industry, but also receive support and feedback from their supervisors and fellow staff, as well as exposure to a diverse array of non-profit and commercial theater organizations and professionals.

NYMF interns are independent, organized, and comfortable under pressure. They also have strong writing, research, and communication skills.

Internships are open to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as early-career professionals. All interns receive a monthly travel stipend after successful completion of their internship. Alternatively, college credit can be arranged in lieu of a stipend.

Summer Internships run from Mid-May through Mid-August





PROGRAMMING

The Programming team is instrumental in all artistic decisions related to NYMF. From selecting productions for the Festival to working with creative teams at every step of the process to organizing public and private events throughout the year, the Programming team is consistently taking on new projects. The Programming Intern reports directly to the Director of Programming and Artist Services. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work independently, strong communication skills, and both literary and theatrical interests.



Responsibilities may include:

Evaluation and management of script submissions, attendance of local readings and performances, interfacing with creative teams, overall assistance for the Director of Programming and Artist Services for all aspects of the Programming Department.



Preferred Experience:

Experience reading, analyzing, and evaluating scripts

Comfortable with high volume tracking and artist interfacing

Dramaturgical experience and musical knowledge are a plus



Ideal for:

Those pursuing careers in Theatrical Programming, Creative Producing, Literary Management, Dramaturgy, Playwriting and/or Theatrical Composition, or Artistic Direction.





MARKETING

Our Marketing team uses their communication skills to let the world know that "Musicals Live Here" at NYMF. This team plays a critical role in coordinating a unified voice for all communications and help to sustain our fun and festive image in an ever-changing theatrical landscape. The Marketing Intern reports directly to the Director of Marketing. The ideal candidate will be an organized self-starter with an interest in marketing or related fields and have a great passion for musical theater. Light graphic design experience with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign is preferred.



Responsibilities may include:

Brand strategy, advertising, promotions, press, partnerships, graphic design, social media, and analyzing consumer data, insights, and market developments.



Preferred Experience:

Excellent knowledge of advertising on social media platforms

Experience with MailChimp or other marketing platforms

Light graphic design work with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign

Wide knowledge of current Broadway and musical landscape



Ideal for:

Those majoring in Marketing, Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Social Media, Advertising, Sales, Business, or Creative Problem Solving





GENERAL MANAGEMENT

Each member of the General Management team works to contract and execute all programs related to the Festival. Through daily correspondence with representatives from each Festival show, along with venues, unions, and other theatrical organizations, the GM team ensures the continued functionality and viability of the Festival. The ideal candidate will be an organized, independent worker with an interest in any field of theatrical management or administration, along with a special place in their heart for musical theatre.



Responsibilities may include:

Review, tracking, and management of contracts, vendor communication and tracking, event coordination, production logistics, and coordination with all Festival show representatives.



Preferred Experience:

Leadership position in the theatre (i.e director, producer, stage manager, etc) for a college level or higher production

Experience with reading and drafting contracts is a plus

Comfortable with formatting and maintaining complex spreadsheets

Theatre and event production experience is a plus



Ideal for:

Those pursuing careers in General Management, Company Management, Event Coordination, Theatre Administration, or Producing.





PRODUCING

Working directly with the Executive Director & Producer of the Festival, the Producing Intern will have the opportunity to contribute to all aspects and departments of the Festival. The ideal candidate will be independent, organized, highly proficient in researching, writing, and editing, and will also have a love of musical theatre.



Responsibilities may include:

Extensive communication with major donors and board members, collaboration with Development team, liaising with high level industry, fiscal sponsorship correspondence, and administrative support to the Executive Director.



Preferred Experience:

Wide knowledge of current Broadway shows and musical landscape

Leadership position in the theatre (i.e director, producer, stage manager, etc) for a college level or higher production

Proficient in both Windows and Mac



Ideal for:

Those pursuing careers in Producing, Development, or Theatrical or Non-Profit Administration.





AUDIENCE SERVICES

The Audience Services team is responsible for all aspects of ticketing for the Festival. Through daily communication, the Audience Services team provides excellent customer service to Festival shows, Patrons, Passholders, and audience members. The Audience Services Intern will also assist in managing discounts and ticketing analytics.



Responsibilities may include:

Communication with Patrons, Passholders and show producers, coordinating press and VIP reservations, setup of ticketing software, booking comps and discounted seats, placing and releasing holds, and daily reporting of income and seat inventory.



Preferred experience:

Customer service or Front of House experience

Comfortable with formatting and maintaining complex spreadsheets

Theater and event production experience is a plus



Ideal for:

Those pursuing careers in Company Management, Box Office Management, or House Management.
