Know Theatre to Offer Free Performance of CALCULUS: THE MUSICAL Tomorrow
Know Theatre of Cincinnati will present a free Calculus: The Musical! performance tomorrow Saturday February 1, 2014 at 3pm. Know Theatre's National tour of Calculus: The Musical is getting ready to hit the road for this year's tour, and we're presenting a free performance before they head out to schools across the nation!
Know Theatre of Cincinnati has been touring this hit musical to schools across the nation since 2008. This year, for the first time, two separate casts are hitting the road to bring calculus to the hearts and minds of students everywhere. Saturday's performance will feature Joshua Nicholson and Kate Berman of the East coast touring company while Rachel Newman and Alie Litras head West to spread the good word of calculus!
Calculus: The Musical!, is a comic "review" of the concepts and history of calculus. It was born as a teaching tool in Marc Gutman's (co-creater) classroom. He found that setting formulas and rules to music helped his students learn and retain tricky information. "Maxima" and "minima" is an abstract concept to a lot of us, but when sung as a rousing "Can-Can" chorus, it's fun and easy to remember! A blend of sketch comedy, musical theatre and classroom lecture, MATHEATRE has created a performance piece to show that although calculus is used in rocket science, well...it isn't exactly rocket science.
With its unique comic style it dramatizes some high points of calculus' history. From Archimedes to Riemann, the quest for the instantaneous rate of change and the area under the curve comes to life through song! Featuring repurposed music from alternative rock to rap to classic operatic musicals, Calculus: The Musical! has something for people of every age. It is great for entire families, so come on down for some top quality entertainment as well as a chance to learn (or brush up on) some basic calculus!
