Cincinnati Shakespeare Company to Host PROJECT38 Shakespeare Festival and Revel & Moonlight Event

Cincinnati Shakespeare Company is pleased to continue their groundbreaking arts education initiative titled PROJECT38 and their signature event Revel and Moonlight. CSC teaching artists have spent over 250 hours this school year working with over 1,600 students at more than 45 different schools to bring each of Shakespeare's 38 plays to life in creative ways. From April 14-18, 2016 all of the Cincinnati community will get to experience these amazing performances at a week-long free festival in downtown Cincinnati! Starting on April 14, there will be over 43 events and nearly 40 hours of free arts events in Washington Park and The Woodward Theater that the entire community is invited too! Last year, the PROJECT38 Festival drew over 3,000 people. April 9 will be the signature event to support PROJECT38 called Revel and Moonlight. This event will take place at The Transept and tickets start at only $25!

There were be a myriad of events going on throughout the festival that bring all 38 of Shakespeare's plays to life in many ways including 18 projects feature performances of exclusively Shakespearean text, 6 incorporate music, 3 are explored with dance, 13 incorporate filmmaking, 8 groups have used the visual arts, 16 groups have created a piece of original work, 2 have done research projects, and 1 is even told through computer animation!

Audience members and students will be given the opportunity to try and see as many of the plays as possible to earn prizes. There will educational materials available throughout as well as activities and details in the free festival guides. This festival is appropriate for audiences of all ages and families with young children are encouraged to attend!

The Woodward Theater will serve as the home base for the week and will be open during all of the festival activities. Audience members can check in there to get information and learn about the upcoming performances. There will also be art installations inside The Woodward Theater related to Shakespeare's 38 plays.

And, as a bonus treat, Cincinnati Shakespeare's professional touring ensemble will present a FREE encore performance of the Shakespeare in the Park touring performance of "Romeo and Juliet" and a premiere of their NEW Midsummer for Elementary Students starting Saturday at 10:30am in Washington Park. These performances are free and open to the public!

The festival will be celebrated at Revel and Moonlight, Cincinnati Shakespeare Company's preview and celebration of PROJECT38 on April 9, 2016 at The Transept.

Producing Artistic Director, Brian Isaac Phillips says, "Our Globe Award Recipient, Vicky Reynolds, is one of our most committed champions of the education program. She has been a passionate advocate for PROJECT38 and, together with her husband Rick, an important part of CSC's growth and success. Vicky's constant commitment to education and Cincinnati is evident by her decades of philanthropy highlighted by: a 40-year career at UC, as well as serving on the Boards of CSC (8 years), St. Xavier High School, and the Marianist Urban School Program. Vicky also volunteers for the Help Program for Returning Citizens. We are honored to have Vicky as our Globe Award Recipient."
