Steppenwolf Theatre Company has announced the addition of Slowgirl by Greg Pierce to this summer's line-up. Directed by ensemble member Randall Arney, the production features ensemble member William Petersen with Rae Gray in the newly reconfigured Upstairs Theatre (1650 N Halsted St), July 18 - August 25, 2013. Tickets ($20 - $78) go on sale May 3 to the public through Audience Services (1650 N Halsted St), 312-335-1650 and steppenwolf.org.

In the wake of a harrowing accident at a house party in Massachusetts, a teenager flees to her uncle's isolated retreat in the Costa Rican jungle to await, or avoid, the repercussions. As the reclusive Sterling (Petersen) and his impulsive niece (Gray) get reacquainted over the course of a week, startling details about their pasts slowly unfold. Performed in the newly configured intimate Upstairs Theatre, Slowgirl is a compelling story about owning your past-and getting on with your life.

Ensemble member Randall Arney was the Artistic Director of Steppenwolf from 1987 - 1995, during which time he established the current Steppenwolf space at 1650 N Halsted St and oversaw the Broadway transfers of The Grapes of Wrath, The Song of Jacob Zulu and The Rise and Fall of Little Voice. Randall is currently the Artistic Director of the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles. Ensemble member William Petersen first appeared at Steppenwolf in the seminal production of Balm in Gilead in 1980 and has since appeared in Fool for Love, Dublin Carol and Endgame. In 1979, Petersen founded The Remains Theater Ensemble in Chicago with a group of fellow actors, including Steppenwolf ensemble members Gary Cole and Amy Morton. In 1996, Petersen made his Broadway debut in a revival of Tennessee Williams's The Night of the Iguana. He served as executive producer on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and was nominated in 2004 for a Golden Globe Award for his portrayal of Gil Grissom, the lead investigator.
