Tickets to Buzz22 Chicago's GHOST BIKE Now On Sale

Buzz22 Chicago has announced that tickets for the World Premiere production of Laura Jacqmin's "Ghost Bike," directed by Co-Artistic Director Sara Sawicki are now on sale. The production runs March 8 - April 6, 2014 at the Greenhouse Upstairs Mainstage, 2257 N Lincoln Ave, Chicago, IL, 60647. Combining elements of Greek, African, and Chinese mythology, "Ghost Bike" depicts two best friends navigating the ultimate challenge to a friendship through an underworld beneath their home city, Chicago. "Ghost Bike" is Buzz22 Chicago's next production after 2013's sold out and highly acclaimed production of "She Kills Monsters" at the Steppenwolf Garage.

"Ghost Bike" is written by Chicago playwright Laura Jacqmin, who recently earned a Jeff Recommendation for her new play "Do-Gooder" at 16th Street Theater. "We're thrilled to be working with Chicago Playwright, Laura Jacqmin, on this ambitious new piece and to be bringing it to life in the very city it was written for," says Co-Artistic Director of Buzz22 Chicago Scott Weinstein. "We're especially excited to bring the experience beyond the stage through partnerships with biking organizations throughout the city."

In "Ghost Bike", Ora and Eddie fell in love with Chicago on their bikes. But when Eddie is hit by a car and killed, Ora refuses to let him go. Instead, she rides beneath our city to bring him back, facing off against underworld gods and ghosts -some interested in helping her, some determined to get in her way. The more difficult her journey becomes, the more Ora must question what it is she's journeying towards. In Ghost Bike, Chicago culture skitches off of Greek, African, and Chinese mythology, sparking a spirited mash-up of underworld and after-life as seen from the seats of fixies, BMX's and ten-speeds.

"Ghost Bike" will have previews Saturday March 8 at 8 p.m. and Sunday March 9 at 7:30 p.m., Press Opening is Thursday, May 13 at 8 p.m. "Ghost Bike" will run until Sunday, April 6:Thursdays at 8 p.m. Fridays at 8 p.m.Saturdays at 8 p.m.Sundays at 4 p.m.

"Ghost Bike" is written by Chicago playwright Laura Jacqmin and directed by Buzz22 Chicago Co-Artistic Director Sara Sawicki. This world premiere production features Aurora Adachi-Winter as ORA and Ricky Staffieri as EDDIE, and Scot West as KING YAMA. Rounding out the ensemble are Thea Lux, Ben Hertel, Lea Pascal, Quincey Krull, Alex Tey, and Margaret Cook. Joining these artists on the creative team for "Ghost Bike" are Scenic Designer John Wilson, Costume and Makeup Designer Izumi Inaba, Lighting Designer Jeff Glass, Sound Designer Daniel Carlyon and Props Designer Molly FitzMaurice. "Ghost Bike" will also feature the work of Choreographer Nathan Drackett, Composer Matt Deitchman and Bike Consultant George Bajalia.

Laura Jacqmin is a Chicago-based playwright, and the winner of the 2008 Wasserstein Prize, a $25,000 award given to recognize an emerging female playwright. She graduated cum laude from Yale University and earned an MFA from Ohio University.

Her play "January Joiner" was the recipient of an NEA Arts Works grant for its premiere production in Long Wharf Theatre's 2012-2013 season, dir. Eric Ting. "Two Lakes, Two Rivers" (originally commissioned by Goodman Theatre, and further developed during the Royal Court Theatre's 2011 International Residency) was workshopped at the 2012 O'Neill National Playwrights Conference, dir. Henry Wishcamper. Other plays include Ski Dubai (Steppenwolf Theatre Company), Look, We Are Breathing (Sundance Theatre Lab), and Dental Society Midwinter Meeting (which enjoyed a sold-out run with Chicago Dramatists/At Play in 2010, and was remounted at 16th Street Theatre and Theater on the Lake in 2011).

Her work has been produced and developed by Atlantic Theater Company, Old Vic New Voices, Roundabout Underground, Vineyard Theatre, LCT3, Ars Nova, Cape Cod Theatre Project, Second Stage Theatre, Contemporary American Theater Festival, The 24 Hour Plays Off-Broadway, and the inaugural NNPN University Playwrights Workshop at Stanford University, among others. Jacqmin has been commissioned by South Coast Rep, Goodman Theatre, Ensemble Studio Theatre/Alfred P.
