Written in 1936 during a turbulent period in Hellman's life as a follow-up to her classic The Children's Hour, DAYS TO COME closed after only eight performances in its original run on Broadway. As a harbinger of the film noir genre, this dark play is filled with illicit love, power struggles, intrigue and murder. A rarely seen work from one of America's premier female playwrights, DAYS TO COME tells the story of a privileged Midwestern family who must wrestle with the opposing forces of organized labor and union busters when employees at their small factory go on strike -- threatening their fortune, their friendships, and possibly their very existence. Exploring the intersection between the political and the personal, DAYS TO COME examines the struggle for self-determination and the potential fallout that ensues when the disempowered begin to question traditional notions of class and gender.

Artistic Director Kathy Scambiatterra directs DAYS TO COME. Scambiatterra also directed the award-winning production of Peer Gynt, and was recently featured on-stage in Juno and the Paycock. DAYS TO COME features Artistic Home Ensemble Members Eustace Allen, Elizabeth Argus, Leavey Ballou, Joe McCauley, Tim Miller; Artistic Associate Gerard Jamroz; and Guest Artists Jeremy Glickstein, Evelyn Kelley, Joe Mack, Patrick Raynor and Justine Serino. Lighting will be designed by Francesca Bourgault, Set Design by Joseph Riley, Costumes will be designed by Ellen Siedel, Sound Design by Adam Smith, and Properties will be designed by Gretel Ulyshen.

First formed in 1998 with the belief that the actor is at the heart of great theater, The Artistic Home strives to give birth to unforgettable moments; to touch audiences who are increasingly distanced from human contact; to readdress the classics and to explore new works with passion. Initially an ensemble of thirteen actors, the company has evolved into a group of thirty actors, directors and artistic associates who collaborate to bring timeless stories of human emotion to the Chicago community.
