Dominican University Performing Arts Center and Theatre Arts Department present "Six Characters in Search of an Author".

When six mysterious characters disrupt an acting workshop, reality blurs as they persuade the actors to perform their story and their disturbing tale unfolds.

Pirandello's 1921 play within a play within a play gets new life in this Jeff-nominated adaptation (for Chicago's Hypocrites Theatre) by Steve Moulds. Pirandello called it satire, academics call it absurdist, and recently it's been described as a parody within a parody. Regardless of what you call it, Six Characters in Search of an Author is an unusually thought-provoking piece. A darkly funny trip through the looking glass into an inescapable and disturbing parallel reality.

Through a unique collaboration with playwright Moulds, the Hypocrite's script has been adapted specifically for the Dominican University production. The setting has changed from a rehearsal in progress to an open acting workshop (with much of the dialogue being created by the actors themselves), while the six Characters have maintained the majority of their original text and premise.

This production process has encouraged every member of the creative team to operate as Pirandello intended - in the pursuit of the unknown, and often, uncomfortable.

The production runs April 11 through the 14th, 2013, with a Thursday preview at 7:00pm and regular shows on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 pm and Sunday at 3:00 pm at Martin Recital Hall. Tickets $15 // Students $5. Call the box office at (708) 488-5000, or visit 7900 West Division Street, River Forest, Ill., Tuesday through Friday, noon to 6:00 p.m, or go online at www.dom.edu/pac.
