Pride Films and Plays, a leader in LGBT play and screenplay development, is launching Generation Next: A Student Writing Contest.

Generation Next is the Pride Films and Plays program which encourages young and emerging student writers working on stage plays and screenplays with LGBT characters or themes. We are now accepting submissions from writers in three divisions: high school, undergrad or graduate school. Writers may submit either works for stage or screen, and both full length and short work will be accepted in each division.

Three writers from each division - high school, undergrad, and grad school - will be named semifinalists in this program, and they will work to develop their scripts in person or via Skype with PFP's artistic team. After a round of workshops and readings, the top script in each of the three divisions will be performed as an enhanced staged reading in a new works fest in summer 2015. Cash prizes of $100 to $400 go to the finalists.

This contest is free for high school students and Dramatists Guild Members. There is a fee of $5 or $10 for undergrad and graduate students.

The contest is open for entries through January 31, 2015. Find more information at https://filmfreeway.com/festival/GenerationNextAContestForStudentsWritingLGBTCharactersorThemes
