John Judd Leads Goodman's A CHRISTMAS CAROL, 11/19 - 12/31

There's a new Scrooge in town! "A-Lister" (Daily Herald) John Judd steps into Ebenezer Scrooge's miserly shoes for the first time in Goodman Theatre's 33rd installment of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. For his Chicago stage credits including Robert Falls' production of Shining City at the Goodman, Judd has been critically praised as "astonishing" (Chicago Sun-Times) and "remarkable" (Chicago Tribune), responsible for "delivering some of the most riveting stage moments of the year." (Time Out Chicago). Chicago actor/director William Brown, in his eighteenth year with the production, returns to direct Tom Creamer's adaptation of Charles Dickens' 1843 novella for his fifth consecutive year. Additional casting will be announced at a later date. A Christmas Carol runs November 19 - December 31, 2010 in the Goodman's Albert Theatre. Born in Aurora, John Judd (Ebenezer Scrooge) previously appeared at the Goodman in Shining City and Magnolia. His Chicago credits include Last of the Boys, The Dresser, The Butcher of Baraboo and Orson's Shadow at Steppenwolf Theatre Company; The Price, Crime and Punishment and Othello at Writers' Theatre; Lettice and Lovage and Gross Indecency at Court Theatre; The Cripple Of Inishmaan and The Lieutenant Of Inishmore at Northlight Theatre; A Number at Next Theatre Company; Come Back, Little Sheba at Shattered Globe Theatre; Execution Of Justice at About Face Theatre; Gagarin Way at A Red Orchid Theatre; and Angels In America at The Journeymen Theater. His off-Broadway credits include Orson's Shadow and an oak tree at Barrow Street Theatre and Crime and Punishment at 59E59. Regionally and internationally Judd has appeared in Orson's Shadow in Williamstown, Massachusetts, Westport, Connecticut and Beaver Creek, Colorado; Shining City at Huntington Theatre Company in Boston; American Buffalo at McCarter Theatre Center in Princeton, New Jersey; and Long Day's Journey into Night at Town Hall Theatre in Galway, Ireland. His film credits include Hoffa, Losing Isaiah, Ride With The Devil, Road To Perdition, Mr. 3000, Batman Begins and Public Enemies. His television credits include Early Edition (CBS), ER (NBC), Prison Break (FOX), Missing Persons (ABC) and numerous pilots.

Save the Dates

A Christmas Carol Kids Auditions. On Sunday, September 12, Goodman Theatre welcomes children of all ethnicities to audition for this year's production of A Christmas Carol. Performers aged 5 to 17 are needed for several roles-including the role of Tiny Tim and the Cratchit children. Actors can register for audition times from 9:30 - 11:30am in-person in the lobby of Goodman Theatre the day of. Auditions will be held from 10am until 3pm. Please do not call the theater to make audition appointments.

3rd Annual Pooch on Scrooge. Once again, the holiday tradition of kids posing for photos with Old Saint Nick goes to the dogs at "Pooch on Scrooge," Saturday, November 13, from 9 - 11:30am at the Goodman. Well-behaved dogs-on-leashes are welcome to dress up for the occasion and pose for a "quick take" portrait with Ebenezer Scrooge of A Christmas Carol by celebrated photographer David Sutton of Sutton Studios. The event is free, though a donation for Season of Concern, a local organization which provides compassionate care to those in the theater community experiencing the effects of catastrophic illness, is encouraged.

Community Day. Goodman Theatre will once again open its doors to the Chicago community with free tickets to the closing performance of A Christmas Carol. On December 31, the Goodman will extend complimentary tickets to a select group of Chicagoans in need, so that they too can experience this holiday classic. More information to come.

Throughout its history at the Goodman, over 1 million people have experienced A Christmas Carol-"a joyous present for the entire family" (Chicago Sun-Times), "year after year...the crown jewel of the holiday season" (Daily Herald), "the best show to get at the true meaning of Christmas" (SouthtownStar) and "ideal family fare, both heartwarming and spectacular in its familiar tale" (Chicago Tribune). Over the years the show has hosted six directors, eight Scrooges, 28 Tiny Tims, and nearly 20,000 "Bah-Humbug!"s. A Christmas Carol is the tale of the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge, who is opposed to holiday cheer and indifferent to the sufferings of the poor in Victorian London. Scrooge is visited by four ghosts who offer him the opportunity to sympathize with his fellow man. Dickens' famous characters include Scrooge's kind-hearted clerk, Bob Cratchit, and his family, including Tiny Tim; the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future; the merry-making Fezziwig couple; and the Ghost of Jacob Marley.
