Called "a cabaret icon" by NBC Chicago, After Dark award-winning vocalist Joan Curto stars in the world premiere of her new show appropriately titled This Is New. Praised by the Chicago Tribunes noted jazz critic Howard Reich as a seasoned interpreter who makes the most of every note." Joan will bedazzle Chicago audiences not only with her voice but also with New Songs, New Dress, and New Shoes. Performing songs ranging from Leonard Cohen to Hoagy Carmichael, Curto will open up her files of someday" songs she wanted to sing and will offer an evening filled with sass, comedy and a touch of heartache. Another Chicago favorite, Beckie Menzie provides musical direction and will be joined by Mike Torti on saxophone. This must-see event takes place for three performances only at Davenport's. and is part of their special anniversary all star lineup. Davenports is located at 1383 N. Joan Curto, who has won the After Dark Award for Outstanding Cabaret Vocalist, is recognized as one of the nations premier interpreters of the great American songbook. She has performed at many of the country's most prestigious music venues including New York's Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Metropolitan Room, The Gardenia in Los Angeles, The Sharon Lynne Wilson Center in Milwaukee, The Colony Room in Palm Beach, and sold out concerts at Chicago's Auditorium Theatre, Harris Theater, Park West, Maxim's, the ASCAP and Chicago Humanities Festival concert series and the Mabel Mercer Foundation's Chicago Cabaret Convention.
